DOJ Sues AT&T for Time Warner Merger
The U.S. Department of Justice is attempting to block AT&T from purchasing Time Warner for $85.4 billion. The attempt appears to be a conflict of interest on behalf of the Trump administration. Because AT&T refuses to sell CNN, the DOJ has made the first move to shutdown the Time Warner merger. In a press release, AT&T’s Senior Executive Vice President and General Counsel David R. McAtee stated:
Today’s DOJ lawsuit is a radical and inexplicable departure from decades of antitrust precedent. Vertical mergers like this one are routinely approved because they benefit consumers without removing any competitor from the market.
