RIP Net Neutrality…or Not?
Speaking of government regulation, the FCC’s net neutrality repeal reportedly went into effect on Monday, April 23rd, though the fight is still far from over.
All of the tech companies involved in the Coalition for Internet Openness, at least 21 states and many others are gearing up to sue the FCC for the widely unpopular repeal. Now yet another major player has entered the arena: INCOMPAS, a major trade association that represents several American telcos.
Until the lawsuits settle, however, net neutrality is officially gone—but certainly not forgotten.
Ready for GDPR?
In less than a month, cybercrime is about to get a lot scarier. Starting May 25th, the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will go into effect, imposing fines on companies who don’t comply to their security protocols.
With these new regulations, companies that experience a breach will not only pay for the damages of the crime but also for any violations, including failure to report the incident within 72 hours.
