The Opportunity
Make a meaningful impact by providing comprehensive psychiatric care within a correctional healthcare setting. This 8-week locum assignment offers a flexible schedule, competitive compensation, and the opportunity to work alongside a multidisciplinary team dedicated to improving mental health outcomes.

Assignment Details
  • Location: Redding, California
  • Start Date: June 22, 2026
  • Duration: 8 Weeks
  • Schedule:
    • 1 day per week
    • 8-hour day shifts
    • Flexible scheduling: Work either one 8-hour shift or two 4-hour shifts
  • Setting: Correctional Health / County Jail

What You'll Do
  • Provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, diagnoses, and treatment planning for incarcerated patients
  • Develop individualized, evidence-based treatment plans
  • Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychotropic medications
  • Conduct medication management and follow-up evaluations
  • Respond to psychiatric emergencies including suicide risk, self-harm, and behavioral crises
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, behavioral health professionals, and correctional staff
  • Educate healthcare teams and correctional personnel on mental health conditions and treatment
  • Maintain timely, accurate clinical documentation
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and regulatory compliance activities
  • Provide psychiatric consultation to medical staff
  • Supervise Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNPs), psychologists, social workers, and behavioral health staff
  • Participate in staff education and training initiatives
  • Provide telephone call coverage as needed for after-hours psychiatric care

Requirements
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible Psychiatrist
  • Active California medical license (or eligibility to obtain)
  • DEA registration
  • Experience providing psychiatric care to adult patients
  • Correctional or forensic psychiatry experience preferred but not required
  • Strong clinical judgment and communication skills
  • Clean NPDB and professional background preferred
